Nominations Sought for Enrico Fermi Award
The Department of Energy invites nominations for the Enrico Fermi Award. This is a Presidential award and one of the longest running and most prestigious science and technology awards given by the US Government. The award recognizes outstanding contributions and achievements that are particularly distinguished and demonstrate scientific, technical, management or policy leadership that are related to all basic and applied research, science, and technology supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and its programs.
First conferred in 1956, the Fermi Award has since recognized some of this country's most brilliant, productive, and accomplished scientists, engineers, science policymakers, and scientific leaders. It is in this spirit of inspiration and dedication that the Fermi Award continues to be given today. The Award consists of a citation signed by the President of the United States and the Secretary of Energy, a gold medal, and a $50,000 honorarium. The award is administered on behalf of the White House by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science.
Nominations for the 2012 Fermi Award must be submitted by March 15, 2012. The Fermi Award's webpage (http://science.energy.gov/fermi) fully describes the nomination guidelines and award processes. All nominations are made via an electronic submission process at http://www.orau.gov/fermi. We encourage the nomination of a diverse pool of candidates.
