SACNAS Program Manager for Student Programs & Regional Meetings
SACNAS is looking for an exceptional individual who desires to work within the not for profit environment to design, coordinate, execute and manage programs designed to advance SACNAS undergraduate and graduate student members along the higher education pipeline and to obtain PhDs in STEM fields. This senior level program manager reports to the Director of Programs and is a member of the SACNAS Programs Team. This is a full time, non-exempt, career position based in Santa Cruz, California.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate, manage, and develop existing student programs, including the SACNAS Student Chapter Program, consisting of nearly 70 chapters nationwide
- Collaborate with the SACNAS National Conference Team to ensure quality student programming designed to achieve the Society’s desired outcomes
- Oversee the planning and implementation of the SACNAS Regional Meetings, which provide an opportunity for chapters, general members, area high schools, and professionals to receive information on SACNAS programs, activities, and upcoming events, while providing opportunity for chapters in the region to communicate, network, and share ideas, and allow students to present their research
- Create unique programming, including online programs, for science career development, professional development, mentoring and leadership development for SACNAS undergraduate and graduate student members
- Contribute to building the resources and infrastructure necessary to ensure the delivery of high quality services
- Ensure effective processes are in place to identify and assess student member needs and the effectiveness of the service delivery portfolio
- Ensure that the values, mission, and strategic vision of SACNAS are evident throughout all programming initiatives
- Collaborate and coordinate with teams and individuals internal and external to SACNAS
- Implement program management tools to evaluate and track specific project outcomes
- Track and plan financial aspects of programs
- Identify and pursue new funding opportunities for programs
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs

- Commitment to the Society’s values, mission, goals, and program
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited University
- 3 years proven professional experience in services for STEM students in higher education
- Experience developing or delivering innovative programs
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Experience and high comfort level with public speaking
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends. Occasional regional and national travel will be required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality around sensitive and complex relationships and projects
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in related field
- History with SACNAS
- Familiarity with planning and executing small and large group events
- Experience facilitating the development of on-line programming and social networking
- Grants management, writing and reporting experience
- Bilingual is helpful
