Surgical Research Fellow

The Trauma Research Center at the University of Colorado Denver has open positions for research fellows for the upcoming academic year.  The TRC has been very productive in transformative research with continuous T32 NIH grant funding since 1991.  The TRC maintains laboratory facilities at the Anschutz campus at the University of Colorado Denver, Bonfils Blood Center and Denver Health Medical Center.  We also work with investigators in multiple other fields, which provides our fellows the opportunity for partnership and collaboration.

Primary mentors are Ernest E. Moore, MD, Anirban Banerjee, PhD, and Chris Silliman, MD, PhD.  Our focus is on cellular priming and inflammation after hemorrhagic shock and resuscitation, and the mechanistic link to organ failure.  Specific emphasis is placed on delineating the inflammatory signaling cascade and other mechanisms of hyper-inflammation and mitigating lung injury.  Fellows pursue their basic science research using animal, tissue culture, and molecular models as well as prospective clinical trials.  Additionally, we are investigating post-injury coagulopathy, with both basic science and clinical investigations using proteomics and state-of-the-art viscoelastic hemostatic assays.

We are seeking individuals who have a strong desire to conduct laboratory research, publish, and grow personally as investigators in preparation for academic leadership.  The NIH T32 Training Grant funding requires that selected trainees hold US citizenship or a US permanent residence.  The program emphasizes personal responsibility, teamwork, multi-tasking, and communication skills.  Many of our trainees (> 60%) remain prominent investigators in arenas such as trauma surgery, hematology, cancer biology, cardiology and general surgery.

Preferred qualification: categorical surgical residents (PGY 2-5)
Underrepresented minorities, disadvantaged and disabled applicants are encouraged to apply
Openings are available for July 1st start dates in 2012 to 2015
