SACNAS Science Policy Fellowship
In 2009, SACNAS created a science policy fellowship program to support our policy efforts. The fellowship creates an opportunity for fellows to:
- understand the issues and intersection between public policy and the scientific research enterprise
- learn how science policy is made and how SACNAS can affect its outcome for good
- expand network of new contacts
Duties of the SACNAS Science Policy Fellow
- Monitor relevant legislative and regulatory issues on a regular basis (i.e., subcommittee, committee, floor, conference, presidential and executive branch status) and report key developments to the Vice President for Science Policy as they occur and upon request.
- Conduct background research and investigate issues for various purposes including general knowledge, preparation of written material, preparation for meetings, etc.
- Assist the vice president for science policy and the science policy team schedule and prepare for meetings. Correspond with relevant congressional and agency staff, draft correspondence, regulatory comments on assigned issues and other as required by the legislative or regulatory situation.
- Represent SACNAS in DC in a wide variety of relevant meetings and hearings.
