SACNAS announces the results of the December board election. Members have voted in a new President-Elect, seven general board members, and one student representative.

President-Elect (2012-2015)

  • Kristine (Tina) Garza, PhD - Associate Professor, University of Texas at El Paso

General Board Members (2012-2014)

  • Luis Echegoyen, PhD – Professor, University of Texas at El Paso
  • Commander John Herrington, MS (Chickasaw) – U.S. Navy (Retired)
  • Charla Lambert, PhD (Haida & Tsimshian) – Program Manager for Science & Training, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
  • Juan C. Meza, PhD - Dean, School of Natural Sciences, University of California, Merced
  • Gabriel Montaño, PhD - Technical Staff Member, Los Alamos National Laboratory
  • Talithia Williams, PhD - Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Harvey Mudd College
  • Greg Villareal, PhD – Bioentrepreneur

Student Board Member (2012-2013)

  • Brandon Gaytan, MA - Graduate Student, University of California, Berkeley

These individuals join an already distinguished cadre of leaders. The SACNAS Board of Directors represents the spirit of volunteerism and personal commitment to advancing the SACNAS mission that is at the heart of all of our members’ participation in the organization. The Board of Directors provides governance and leadership to the organization and contributes to our fundraising efforts.

SACNAS executive director, Judit Camacho says, “We had the largest number of nominated candidates in our nearly forty-year history. We were thrilled with the caliber of the individuals willing to serve the board in a leadership capacity. We are looking forward to working with the newly elected members and the willingness of the other candidates to serve on SACNAS committees, thereby still lending their talents, connections, and experience to the organization.”
