SACNAS in Seattle for 2012

Thursday, Feb 3, 2011

SACNAS is pleased to announce that the 2012 SACNAS National Conference will be held in Seattle, Washington from October 11-14, 2012.  This is exciting news for the organization, as we look forward to building a larger community in the Pacific Northwest and deepening the relationships we have with the local area academic institutions, government agencies, corporations, and other nonprofit organizations.

The finalizing of site agreements comes after a several-year organizational effort to take the SACNAS National Conference to the “Emerald City.”  Long time SACNAS supporters within the Seattle area championed the cause and their efforts and continued vision in bringing SACNAS to Seattle are deeply appreciated.

SACNAS sees this conference site as an incredible opportunity to further develop already existing long-term partnerships with institutions like University of Washington, Western Washington University, the Department of Energy, and others, and to reach out to the myriad Native communities and tribal colleges in the area.

Executive director, Judit Camacho says, “The northwest region holds such promise for SACNAS to build collaborations with innovative companies, world philanthropic leaders, and research institutions doing some of the most cutting-edge scientific work in our nation.”
