Neuropsychiatry Research Training Program
Neuropsychiatry Research Training Program
The focus of the Neuropsychiatry Research Training Program is to integrate basic
and clinical neuroscience research in a cohesive effort to elucidate neural substrates
of schizophrenia. Converging multidisciplinary approaches by collaborating
laboratories at the University of Pennsylvania aim to contribute a new
understanding of the symptoms, pathophysiology and etiology of schizophrenia.
Research opportunities in animals and humans include the integration of
neurobehavioral measures ‐ cognition, emotion, olfaction ‐ with neuroimaging,
electrophysiological, cellular and molecular neuropathological measures. Genetic
paradigms are pursued in examining endophenotypic markers and relevant
disorders. A developmental perspective is an emphasis in human and animal
studies. Trainees benefit from the rich and stimulating academic environment at
Penn in pursuing innovative research in preparation for an academic career.
